Abberior STED microscope

Microscopy > Optic > Super resolution

Abberior's Expert Line microscope is the result of work carried out in the laboratory of S W. Hell's laboratory (winner of the 2014 Nobel Prize). Thanks to STED imaging, it can go below the resolution barrier of photonic microscopy and achieve "super-resolution" (lateral resolution of less than 30 nm in 2D and around 75 nm in 3D). The microscope also works with traditional confocal microscopy, but benefits from an adaptive optics module that corrects aberrations due to differences in refractive indices and improves penetration depth, a very interesting feature for better observation of thick specimens.  Multi-colour STED and/or confocal acquisitions are possible thanks to 4 excitation lasers (405, 485, 561 and 640nm), two depletion lasers (775 and 595 nm) and 4 high-quantum-efficiency fluorescence detectors. Adaptive illumination, unique to this system, preserves the fluorescence of the sample by dynamically dosing the laser power applied to each pixel. This technology is particularly well suited to living organisms, as it reduces the toxic effects of light on the sample and limits the photobleaching of probes.
